I’m just a competitive person by nature, you know? That’s who I am and no matter what it is. It could be video games, it could be anything. I’m just competitive. And when I’m on that field, I just want to play at the highest level I can possibly play, be the best I can be, and try to do better than everybody else.

Freddy Sanchez coaches his 3-year-old son’s flag football games.

Narrator: “While Sanchez’s focus seems to be solely on returning to the baseball field he takes another job just as serious.”

Duane Kuiper: “Swing and a flare to right… And that’s the ballgame, as Stewart steps on home plate! And the Giants win it in the 13th! So Freddy Sanchez comes through with a base hit to right field and the Giants take game one of this three-game series.”

I do admit that when I first saw the montage on CSN, showing their two injuries in the highlights was an emotional turn-off.
But now that I’ve gotten a chance to watch it again, I have to honestly say it fits. It’s just a way of showing that even with emotionally-draining injuries like Freddy’s and Buster’s, there are still moments that have made you smile during this past season. Despite these two lowest points of the season, it gives you a chance to appreciate and give tearful smiles to other great moments in 2011 even more.
Thanks for 2011, Giants. Looking forward to 2012 just like any other season, no matter how it will turn out.

Freddy Sanchez is forced to be a spectator as he watches Jonathan Sanchez’s unruly start against the Pirates, and also shows his season-ending post-surgery shoulder.

“The Giants’ punchless offense makes it even harder for the former Pirates batting champ turned couch potato to watch today’s game.”

Franchez! Freddy! Freddy! Freddy!
It’s really amazing to see the journey many players go through to try to be successful in something they love. Freddy Sanchez was born with disorders that affected his feet. Doctors told him that he might never be able to walk properly. If I recall correctly, today he wears shoes with about half a size of difference. If that wasn’t enough, he was so broke in college and in his initial stint to try to be signed that he and his wife (then girlfriend, who worked 3 jobs to support the both of them) came close to living in their car. And now look at the person he is today…

“We’ve come a long way… [My wife] has been there from the beginning, when we had nothing.”
